Hatomo Battles The Yomi Demons

“Yomi” is a Doom 2 project that Pablo Dictter and I have been working on now and then since 2004 (although I refuse to accept that it has started in 2004, according to my memory, it should have been 2005, but whatever). This set of maps started as an attempt to create levels in the style of the original Doom 2. Our goal was to have a few maps and release them in a set. We eventually ended up with no less than 10 maps that we're releasing to the public now.

As a bit of trivia, “Yomi” is the japanese term for the underworld and one of three mythological locations, one being in the sky, one on earth, and the said underworld, which is referred to as “Yomi no Kuni” (Land of Yomi). According to the legend, the entrance to Yomi is found in the Izumo province, which is also the first maps' title.

And another bit of trivia: This is the first time that I turned to Doom 2 for mapping, apart from my older and kinda mediocre level “Steel Conquerors”. Since I disliked most of the maps in Doom 2, I never really cared about mapping for the game. But once I started using the new monsters and textures, I honestly didn't want to go back. Gameplay is so much more varied with these cool new monsters. So, expect to see many of them in our Yomi maps!

The map set can be obtained from my Doom 2 section, as well as from Pablo's Doom website. If you want to see screenshots, you can find some at Pablo's site as well.

Toby, you should release your Ninth Gate map soon, that according to me is a very beautiful map, a work of art...
